The first characteristic that is prioritized in our Vision Statement is “engagement." We want our school to be an “engaged school community." I believe that a community of this nature calls for the following three key requirements: 1.

I believe that there are three key requirements that are needed for engagement: action, commitment, and love. Today’s post is going to address the “action” requirement. Simply put, an engaged school community is

My wife and I have been fortunate enough to travel to some wonderful places. On our trips I love to see the architecture, particularly historical buildings; structures like Chichen Itza in Yucatan, Mexico and the Coliseum in Rome, which are two of

Christ calls Christians to serve the marginalized in our world.  He beckons us to live as He did.

“Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28).”

The question for our school is:  What does it mean to serve others through Christian Education?
To me, this is a critical question; one that we have carefully addressed through our strategic plan.  As a teacher and principal, helping the marginalized in education has always been important to me.  Seeing children with learning disabilities “slip through the cracks” is absolutely heart-breaking.  But, I realized, that it can be avoided.  Sure, it will cost money, time and energy… But aren’t our children worth it? At STCCS, we believe that every child is worth investing in.  In fact, as a Christian organization, we believe we are called to invest in every child that enters our school to the best of our ability.  That’s why we have agreed to work towards accomplishing our outcome statement #3 through the development of our Arrowsmith program.

Outcome statement #3 states:

St. Thomas Community Christian School will be a school with a solution to serve the marginalized in education.

We have more work to do.  But, it is our hope that, through God’s power and with your help and support, STCCS can become a place where the marginalized feel loved, cared for, educated and, ultimately, discipled to serve our glorious Father.
